Tiny fingers

This week we've been providing respite care for a foster family who are fostering a precious little baby girl. We've so enjoyed our days with her. It has been especially special to see the sincere care and wonder in all of the kids hearts and eyes as we care for and observe this precious little one. It will, as expected, be so hard to say goodbye when our time with her is through.

Birthday Coffee

For my birthday Karter surprised me with a gift certificate to get my favorite coffee treat at my friend's coffee shop. When it was time to redeem my gift, I certainly wanted to take Karter to get a hot cocoa... and I invited Micah to join us, too! Thank you for being so thoughtful Karter!

Fall Sunshine

As we left church 2 weeks ago it was so beautiful outside we decided to take a few pictures of the kids in front of the church building amongst the autumn leaves. I adore how Alyssia is hugging Andrew so affectionately!

Visit to Boulder, CO

In the middle of September, Kent, Marilyn and Karter were able to go visit Kent's sister, Kelley and Marilyn's brother, David, in Boulder, Colorado. We had such a great visit together. We did a lot of site seeing, hiking on several mountains, and we went to a Colorado Buffalo football game. And yet, the best part of the trip was simply being with David and Kelley! We are so thankful for the opportunity to go and for those who helped keep the other children here in Michigan!!

Karter could possibly be one of the Buffs biggest fans! Because... If Uncle David thinks they're cool, they MUST be cool! The highlights of the game were the two times the live Buffalo named Ralphie took a high speed lap around the football field as the fans cheered Ralphie on!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our "field trip" to Celestial Seasonings tea factory. We were able to choose between over a hundred varieties of teas to taste test. Seeing how the tea is processed and packaged was also educational and interesting!!! A perfect outing for our rainy day!

Cute Kid Quotes

November 2009 Micah said, "Meatloaf? I didn't know it was real! I thought it was only on t.v."
We were recently talking about and praying for a family serving in Indonesia. Shortly after praying for our friends Alyssia said, "Mom, I want to go to Indonesia ... (pause) and I want to go to Chuck E. Cheese."
11-10-09 Alyssia runs in the house after visiting our neighbors who live next door and shouts, "Mommy! Mrs. "Neighbor" gave us some candy!"
Frequent comment from others, "Wow! You look great for having 6 kids!" ;)

It was Christmas time and Marilyn had just placed Christmas presents under our tree. The kids were so excited to see the presents wrapped under the tree and ran toward them to get a closer look. Marilyn quickly stated as they forged ahead toward the gifts, "If anyone looks at the presents I will need to put them away until Christmas morning." Micah looked at Marilyn with disappointment and said, "But, Mommy, I like looking at them they are wrapped so pretty." Marilyn quickly rephrased her instructions and replied, "If anyone opens a present to look inside to see what it is, then I will need to put them away until Christmas." ............. So cute!
We were talking about presidents and we began to name them in order. Someone called out, George Washington, then John Adams and then Micah spoke up, "I think the third president was Tim Walberg."
While tucking Micah into bed he asked Marilyn, "Mom, when you get the kooties, what color are they?"
After giving Micah a few marshmellows for a treat, he asked for more. Marilyn told him that he had had enough and he wouldn't be able to eat anymore right now. Micah continued and asked why he couldn't have more. Marilyn explained that eating too much sugar isn't healthy for your body and we want him to stay healthy. Micah then replied with a big grin, "But, Mom, if I die then I will be with God!"
While I was helping Alyssia brush her teeth she smiled big into the mirror and said, "I'm handsome!" ... She must have brothers! :) 5/2008

While eating carrots for dinner one night Sarah asked the boys, "Did you know carrots help people see... in the dark?"
Elijah came for a two day visit in August and after Marilyn returned home from taking Elijah back to be with his birth mom Micah asked, “Where’s Elijah, Mom?” Marilyn replied, “At home with his mommy.” Then Micah sweetly stated, “But Mommy, we want to keep him.” 2007
Sarah spilled water and ice on the floor while getting a drink of water. Karter told her, “You’re going to have to clean that up when you’re finished!” Sarah replied, “Okay, Mom!” Then Karter quickly responded saying, “I’m not your mom … I’m your dad!”
We were in the middle of eating dinner and Micah said, "I need to go to the bathroom." Marilyn responded, "Are you sure you can't wait?" Then Micah seriously questioned, "Why? Who's in the bathroom, Mommy?" 2007
When Karter was three years old, Karter and Marilyn were listening to a CD that was telling the story of Jesus’ birth. Afterwards Karter asked Marilyn, “Mommy, why did Mary swallow Jesus?” It took Marilyn a minute to realize what he was asking then Marilyn assured him they said Mary SWADDLED baby Jesus not SWALLOWED him!
Micah fell off of a stool in the bathroom and I asked, "Micah, are you okay?" He replied very seriously, "Yes, Mom. I'm okay. Don't worry. I don't need to go to the hospital."
